Historical and Literary References
The memory of the Goddess known to the Greeks as Pallas Athena was possibly the result of ancient encounters with the Spiritual Hierarchy of Ascended and Cosmic Beings. Their mythology had descended from the elder days and dim memories of earth's first three Golden Ages. After thousands of years, however, the gods and goddesses assumed human characteristics in the minds of the people because of the degeneration of their spiritual faculties of inner sight and their tendency toward idolatry. Therefore, what is presently ascribed to the mythological Athena may or may not reflect the actuality of the true Goddess of Truth, Pallas Athena.

Greek mythology considered Athena to be a Goddess of wisdom, the arts, industry, justice and skill. In the Greek myths, Athena's symbols have been a spear, an owl, and the olive branch. The "Spear of Truth" symbol of Athena was used by a secret society of seekers of Truth in England, of which Francis Bacon was a member. Bacon, the final embodiment of beloved Saint Germain, used the name "Shake - spear" as a pseudonym when writing the Shakespearean plays, indicating that he was "shaking" the "Spear of Truth" at human ignorance.

The Greek city of Athens was named after Athena.

She was the Patron (Muse) that sponsored Francis Bacon and his circle of Elizabethan authors from Inner Levels.

Embody the Truth

through the Anointed Representative®, Carolyn Louise Shearer,

" . . . This Earth will have a Golden Age. And it will contain the Truth and the Light of the Ascended Master Octave. And you will be able to look back at some future time yourself from the Ascended Master Octave and be able to say 'I remember the beginning of that Golden Age for I was there. Now my children's children are carrying on. I choose to help. I choose to stay with Earth's evolutions.

"This is how the Ascended Masters have felt for many hundreds of thousands of years. They do not have a desiring for the planet to come into its own so they can be about other business. This is not why They strive with the Earth. It is because of the Love of the people, and of the planet, and of God that is embodied in the Earth and all thereon.

"The Ascended Masters are able to see the Light of God. They do not see all of the turmoil, albeit They are aware of the turmoil. For They do not so remove Themselves that They are out of touch with the need. This is why They have Ascended Master Activities. This is why They have Messengers.

"Embody the Truth. Join the ranks of the Ascended Master Activities of Light. Become a Star that will Light the planet, that will embody the Truth.

"We are looking forward to many lifestreams that will wear the Crown of the Christ in very short order. For there is need of more than one or two Christed Beings. And when those Christed Beings all work in a concerted effort toward the Light of God, then you will see a change like none before. For all of the Great White Brotherhood is waiting poised, and ready to move into action. . . . "

Beloved Pallas Athena

through the Messenger, Geraldine Innocente,
May 23, 1953,   New York City, New York U.S.A.

"Beloved ones, you have heard these words, over and over, through the kind offices of our beloved Godfre, and through the gracious assistance of our beloved Lotus, for years - TRUTH IS PERFECTION. Nothing that was not conceived in the Mind and Heart of God has Reality or Immortality - thank God!

"Then, what happens when you feast, with all the power and attention of your feeling world, on the defects appearing within the lifestreams you encounter?
You are not then embodying the consciousness of Truth. IT IS NOT TRUTH! Please feel that, with all your heart and soul and spirit, when you see any manifestation of ill health, imperfection, distress and the countless number of limitations to which the human mind is heir. Your business is to SEE and BE Perfection.

"All of the Law, dear people, is a balance. There is no purpose in being like some of the blessed ascetics of the early ages, who rushed from the initiations of worldly living into the cloisters, to escape observing the idiosyncrasies of the rest of mankind. Mastery lies within reach of the lifestream who can observe imperfection and not allow rebellion, hate, resentment and depression to churn within the feeling world, and who can, within the Heart of that Sacred Fire (of which you are the guardians), firmly and powerfully assert, 'It is not true,' calling for the manifestation of Truth through that lifestream.

"Do you think that for one fraction of a moment, hundreds and hundreds of God Beings would have denied themselves the Glory and Freedom of Nirvana, and remained in the shadows of such creations that I would not describe to you, if We tied our attention to the discrepancies manifest through the outer selves? You think you are sensitive, dear hearts, through your limited senses, through the small spectrum which your physical sight allows you to observe, and the very small octave in which your hearing perceives the sounds of the third-dimensional plane. But when you have the senses of complete Freedom and you can hear, as our beloved Messenger said yesterday, the sounds of the inner bodies, and yet you can remain within that calm peace and DEMAND God revealed through the lifestream, then you become Ourselves in action.

"How do you believe the Master Jesus was able to render the service, which he requires each of you to render? It was because He refused acceptance of the appearances. 'Judge not according to appearances,' He said again, and again and again.

". . . . Oh, precious ones, it is not just to give you a few hours away from the grind of your daily life or a spiritual opiate to make the course of your life pilgrimage easier, that We come. There have been books written from the beginning of time, from the Upanishads and Vedas, to your Testaments, but it is to bring our FEELING, OUR CONVICTION, OUR LOVE, and to endeavor to stir within you a DESIRE TO BECOME that which you can manifest.

"We would not speak to you on something miraculous which you could not attain, any more than you would tell a child that he could accomplish something that was beyond his talents or capacities. That would be cruelty. We never present an idea for manifestation which We have not carefully deliberated, and for which, with much contemplation and invocation, We having looked over the lifestreams chosen for their potential ability to serve Our Cause.

"It is a beautiful sight when a being desires to bring forth; new movement or a cause - to see that being present it to Vesta to vest it with the power to bring it forth, and then, in cooperation with certain Ascended Master Sponsors, go through the Seven Spheres and look at the Glory of the Causal Bodies, and ask for the assistance of certain ones who are prepared. You see, I AM the Godmother of Messengers - yes, all of the Messengers that carry the Word. The Word of Truth, no matter how limited its expression, carries part of My life through it. And when the beloved Vesta invests the energy of a lifestream into a cause pertaining to the carrying of Truth to mankind, or any evolutionary scheme, then such a one must come to Me.

"When people like Lord Buddha and the Master Jesus carried the Word of God forth, they, through their own endeavors and efforts, pierced into the highest Realms of Light, and into the Heart of Heaven, and they carried back, first hand, the results of their experience, in their own consciousness - but when the mankind of Earth signify a desire to know Truth and, as you have done,  magnetize the ethers until the Veil of the Silence had to be parted, the lifestreams who, of themselves, were not able to rise into the Heart of the Father and who are invested with the great responsibility of carrying the Word of Truth to the people, must be particularly blessed, because We must step down Truth into their consciousness. While evolving their own Perfection, they give forth the Word.

"It is a voluntary task, dear hearts, for if We had no one to give and to carry the Word, where would the people of Earth be? So, I ask you this morning to bless our Messengers, and to bless each other, for all of you within this room are truly messengers of God. Remember that, as your own life is served in spreading the Word, and as you are unfolding within yourself the use of the Sacred Fire of Purification, so also are they to whom you look in this hour.

"May you so live, that even if you perceive imperfection, it does not draw the energies of your world into confusion, because you LOVE perfection so, and live for that Light. As a mother desires for her children the many perfect expressions in every avenue of talent, everything within you rushes forth to enfold that one and to draw forth the God-Self through them.

"Oh, what a comfortable feeling it is to pour forth love and be loved. Everyone wants love and approval. You cannot approve that which is not correct - no! But, there is no part of life that does not have some redeeming feature, else they would not have a beating heart in which is some of My Quality of Truth. . . . ."

"The respect mankind claim for Truth far exceeds the ability they have expressed to manifest it. The admittance of basic and simple ideas into the consciousness when they are based alone on obvious God Truth is extremely vitalizing to the 'spirit' of truth! The entertaining of thoughts of conflict and doubt is likewise debilitating to the individual holding such negative concepts.

"The fact that all Truth is God connects the realities of the Spirit with the consciousness of man through Illumination's Flame. The fact that ideas are sometimes conflicting stems from the individual's own misinterpretations rather than the statements and laws proffered to mankind by the great Cosmic Beings and Ascended Masters. Enjoy the sunshine, love the elements (earth, air, water and fire), feel attuned with Nature and keep harmonious with as much of life as possible. This is so much more important than merely embracing a dogma. Much of mankind's distress comes from the wish to feel important.

"Now, in an egocentric way so many individuals do embrace a dogma in order that they may be considered the sponsors and dispensers of salvation to others, thus giving themselves a special importance in the universe. If feelings of pride were profitable to them personally, or to Us of the Ascended Host, We would not only condone but encourage it. However, when its dilatory effects create so much unhappiness, we can do no less than decry it and advise the spiritual aspirant to hold humble feelings and simple God-concepts of Love and Purity, especially at the beginning of the Path, and always return to these simple concepts whenever the 'water' appears too deep to safely escape should a sudden 'cramp' of conflict arise. Truth exists to heal and is best acquired through absorption of the active principle in everyday affairs.

"This does not mean an abandoning of the search, but a postponement occasionally while the individual takes stock of talents and of self, analyzes situations and plans for a brighter future - which is always more Light. In this connection, I cannot emphasize enough the need for Our chelas to call forth and hold the vision of intense Cosmic Light around their mind, world and affairs. Nothing is so productive of Truth as Light. Finding God, one finds Truth. Finding conflict, one can be easily detoured and not know it!

"The conscious cultivation of Harmony, the sustaining of Divine Radiance, is never an accident. To understand Truth you must become Truth through living in the Radiance of whatever measure of Purity God has given to you. Expanding it further by conscious effort you will find at last a 'thinning of the veil' and eventually the 'Peaceful Valley' will prove to be no mirage, for you will have entered into the Shangri-La or world of Divine Perfection which the Father is! . . . "

Athena, Greek Goddess

of Wisdom and Craftsmanship
The Greek goddess Athena is usually portrayed as one of the most benevolent goddesses... strong, fair, and merciful.
Athena is known as one of the three virgin goddesses, referred to as virgin because they were able to remain independent, unswayed by the spells of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and the consequent pull of marriage and motherhood. Romance and marriage did not feature in Athena's mythology. In Greek mythology Athena was, in essence, the prototype of the contemporary "career woman."

The birth of the Greek goddess Athena was more than unusual, it was truly amazing!
It was the headache to end all headaches! Zeus, the mighty king of the Olympian deities, regretted having swallowed his first wife, Metis. When Zeus had learned that she was pregnant, he feared that she was carrying the son that had been prophesied to supplant him on the throne.
Though swallowing Metis  had seemed a good idea at the time, it was now causing him great suffering which eventually proved to be totally unnecessary.

Ready to risk anything to get rid of the pain that tormented him, he allowed one of the other gods to split open his head, and . . . Voila! Out came, not the son he feared, but a beautiful full-grown daughter, dressed in golden battle armor, who instantly became the "apple of her father's eye."
A motherless child, the goddess Athena quickly became his favorite. Athena was the only one of his children that Zeus ever entrusted with his magic shield and the secret of where his lightening bolts were stored.  The goddess Athena remained his constant ally and fierce protector, promoting his interests, serving as his advisor.

Although usually depicted holding a spear, her golden helmet pushed back to reveal her elegant beauty, the Greek goddess Athena was known more for her role as judge, diplomat, and mediator than for actually fighting in battle. Her decisions were renowned for their fairness and compassion.
The goddess Athena was a superb strategist and many of the Greek myths recount tales of her help given to various gods, goddesses, and heroes as they went into battle or faced seemingly impossible tests.

Although she was widely known in one of her roles as "Athena Goddess of War," it was as a mediator and a planner that she excelled. She always worked to prevent war, but once war had been joined, the goddess Athena  fought efficiently for her side.
To prevent the Trojan War Athena descended from Olympus and walked between the two armies, making both sides swear oaths to keep the peace. Unfortunately a Trojan soldier named Pandaros, in an act of great cowardice, violated his oath and let loose his arrow, thus starting the Trojan War. Athena, Goddess of strategy, expressed her displeasure by helping the other side to emerge victorious. Remember the Trojan Horse? Just one of Athena's great ideas!
The Greek goddess Athena championed many heroes, offering them her advice and protection, helping them to win their battles.  In one of her most famous adventures,  Athena would assume the shape of various men, women, and children to guide the wandering Odysseus. Her protection allowed the suffering hero to finally return safely to his home and family. Nike, the goddess who personified Winged Victory, often accompanied the goddess Athena. Not surprising, since "Athena, Goddess of War" never lost a battle.

Other women, however, seldom feature as allies in the stories of Athena who seems to have been firmly accepted as part of the patriarchy.
The most notable exception was her childhood friend, a girl called Pallas. The two, both tomboyish, were inseparable as children, practicing their fighting skills and sharing playful adventures. Once during a practice session, according to Greek mythology Athena accidentally wounded Pallas. The injury eventually proved fatal. In deep grief over the loss of her friend, Athena took Pallas' name to add to hers. Thereafter she was often referred to as Pallas Athena, in honor of her childhood friend.
The Greek goddess Athena was frequently called upon to settle disputes between the gods or various mortals. "Athena Goddess of Wisdom" was known for her superb logic and intellect. Her decisions were usually well-considered, highly ethical, and seldom motivated by self-interest. Not only the goddess Athena's decisions demonstrate her wisdom, but they revealed her great compassion as well.
Once, when a man called Teiresias accidentally walked in upon the goddess Athena while she was bathing (an act usually punished by death), Athena took pity on the poor mortal. Not wishing his death, she instead covered his eyes with her hands, thus simultaneously blinding him and giving him "inner sight," i.e., the gift of prophecy. As a result he became one of the most revered oracles in ancient Greece.
The Greek goddess Athena identified with the patriarchy and usually cast her power and support on their side during any dispute. In the first jury trial in recorded history, she cast the deciding vote to acquit Orestes of the murdering of his mother to avenge his father's death. Athena was persuaded by Apollo's argument in Orestes' defense that the death of a mother was of less importance than a father's death since the woman simply nurtured the seed while it was actually the man who planted it.
Motherless herself, the goddess Athena usually placed patriarchal principles above maternal bonds.

Logical by nature, the goddess Athena rarely lost her cool.  One exception where she became "hot-headed" and again sided with the male power structure, is told in the story of Arachne, a young mortal woman who challenged Athena to a contest to see who was the best weaver. The goddess Athena was not at all upset about being challenged by a mortal and fairly judged Arachne's creation to be as flawless as her own.

But the subject matter of Arachne's tapestry offended her greatly for Arachne had depicted the amorous and adulterous adventures of Zeus, Athena's father. Livid that Arachne would dare to mock authority in such a way, Athena slashed the tapestry to shreds and drove Arachne to hang herself. When she had quieted her emotions, Athena took pity on the poor woman and let her live on by transforming her into a spider, weaving her beautiful webs for eternity.
A goddess of many talents, "Athena Goddess of Crafts" was an expert artisan herself.  The goddess Athena was celebrated as the patron of weavers, potters, goldsmiths, sculptors, musicians, and horsemen.  Athena was credited with the invention of the yoke and the bridle, the sailing ship, and the flute and trumpet.

The name of the Greek goddess Athena remains with us to this day since Athens, Greece, was named in her honor, in appreciation of her gift to them, the olive tree.

The goddess Athena is recognized as the protector of cities.
More than any other of the Greek goddesses, Athena remains a symbol of civilization, useful knowledge, noble reasoning, logic and wisdom. The goddess Athena reminds us that we can successfully use our intellect and creativity in the pursuit of any goal we choose.
